A third of older people calling LGBT Foundation’s helpline discussed feelings of isolation and a desire to meet others. In response, our ‘Come OUT with us’ campaign tackles social isolation and exclusion. The campaign offers a range of events and safe spaces where over-50s can come together, socialise, and learn new skills.
The project offers events that can build confidence, and support the project is confident of building an active and empowered community. Some examples of events held already include:
- Open mic night
- Trips to HOME
- Oral histories training
- Archives handling session
- History walking tour
- Quiz night
- Qigong for menopause session

“Yes we are over 50 and LGBT, and also active, willing and still wanting to make a positive contribution to the vibrant Manchester community. The social spaces being created and promoted for ‘Come OUT with us’ are showing that in Greater Manchester we are not being side-lined or ignored, and it’s fantastic that some of the events will enable us to display our talents as well!”
