Since 1975, we’ve been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ rights, health, and well-being, working tirelessly to ensure that every LGBTQ+ person has a voice, feels valued, and can live their lives free from discrimination. Over the years, we’ve stood together, fought for equality, supported each other, and celebrated our diversity.

This milestone isn’t just about looking back; it’s about celebrating the people who’ve shaped our journey, reflecting on how far we’ve come together, and building a future where every LGBTQ+ person can thrive.

For 50 years, people like you—our supporters, allies, and community members—have been the driving force behind our mission. This anniversary is about recognising your contributions and giving everyone a chance to join in the celebration.

Here’s how you can get involved:

Share Your Story and help us tell the history of LGBTQ+ communities by contributing to our Online Memory Box or online with #LGBTFoundation50

Ways to Celebrate and Make a Difference

This is your celebration, too. Whether you’ve been part of our journey for decades or are just joining us, there are many ways to celebrate with us!

#LGBTFoundation50 Campaign
Be part of a movement that honours the past and inspires the future. Share your story and your vision for a more inclusive tomorrow on social media using #LGBTFoundation50 and show the world what pride and progress look like.

Online Memory Box
Do you have a life-changing moment with the LGBT Foundation, or a cherished memory from our earlier days as the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, Healthy Gay Manchester, or the Manchester Gay Switchboard? Share your story, photo, or reflection and preserve the rich history of our community.

Coffee and Conversation Events
Connect with others and share your memories at our Coffee and Conversation Events in Manchester, Liverpool, and London. These welcoming spaces are perfect for reminiscing, celebrating, and building new connections.

Oral Histories Project
Help us preserve the voices of those who paved the way. Our Oral Histories Project will host personal stories, photos, and moments of pride in an online exhibition – ensuring future generations can celebrate the resilience and progress of our community.

Throughout the year, we will celebrate our legacy, our place in history, and our communities ongoing progress. We’ll kick off the year with reflections on LGBT Foundation’s rich history, honouring the strides we’ve made together. In the summer, we’ll come together for a series of celebrations that highlight the joy, hope, and unity of the vibrant LGBTQ+ community today.

As the year comes to a close, we’ll turn our focus to the future, shaping the next 50 years of LGBT Foundation and continuing the fight for LGBTQ+ equality across the UK.

Highlights of the year include:

  • A team of 50 runners in the Great Manchester Run
  • The return of Out Northwest magazine
  • An online historical exhibition
  • A pre-pride brunch ahead of Manchester Pride to celebrate progress and look ahead to future achievements

With more to be announced in spring.
