Join us for our social group for LGBTQ+ people aged over 50 in Liverpool, which is run by LGBT Foundation’s Pride in Ageing programme. In February we will be visiting Hope Street Theatre to see new play ‘The BBC’s First Homosexual’. Your booking of a ticket with us for this event includes free entry to the play.

Inkbrew Productions presents a national tour of ‘The BBC’s First Homosexual’ an official collaboration with LGBT+ History Month UK. In 1954, the BBC made its first ever documentary about male homosexuality. At the time, the topic was so taboo that when production on the radio programme was finished, it was promptly banned. It sat on the shelves for three years until a heavily edited version was finally broadcast in 1957. Then it was lost.

All that survived was a forgotten transcript of the original recording, remarkably rediscovered after over seventy years. With special agreement from the BBC, this is now being brought to life on stage by multiple award-winning writer Stephen M Hornby in a newly expanded dramatisation, directed by award-winning director Oli Hurst.

The performance and post-show discussion begins at 7.30pm and will last approximately 1.5 hours. We will be meeting from 7pm to find our seats. Full details about meeting points will be shared with ticket-holders.
