Tips to quit
- List your reasons to quit and set a date for when you’ll do it
- Quit with a friend
- Tell people you’re quitting
- Switch up your drinks- wine, fizzy drinks, tea and coffee compliment cigarettes, whereas juices and water make smoking less appealing
- Download a stop smoking app to help your journey. The Smoke Free app can be found here
- Keep your hands busy- download some new games to your phone for when the cravings hit, keep a trinket with you to fiddle with, try out a vape or inhalator
- Find new ways to unwind and still give yourselves those breaks or moments of relaxation
- Get rid of all lighters, ashtrays and smoking paraphernalia
- Don’t give up if you relapse! The more quit attempts you make, the more likely you are to quit for good
- If you are able to, give yourself rewards with the money you’ve saved
- Talk to your doctor about Champix and other quitting methods.
- Keep a cravings diary
- Brush your teeth right after meals if you usually have an after dinner cigarette
- Lollipops, carrot/celery sticks, mints, gum, pistachios- keep your mouth busy
- Local quit groups
