LGBTQ+ Equality Panel

Established in August 2018, the GM LGBTQ+ Equality Panel aims to represent LGBTQ+ people across Greater Manchester by championing equality, community-driven efforts and intersectionality within the work of Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).

What is the GM LGBTQ+ Equality Panel?

The LGBTQ+ Equality Panel brings together volunteers from across Greater Manchester, to contribute their lived experience, and represent LGBTQ+ community interests in the work of Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA)

The Panel hosts monthly meetings, where members meeting with policy makers across GMCA to discuss new policies and ongoing projects of work. Members also act as LGBTQ+ representatives by attending events hosted by GMCA.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, and the Leader of Manchester City Council meet with the Panel annually to hear about it’s work, and learn about the issues facing LGBTQ+ communities acorss the city region.

Community-Driven and Led

The GM LGBTQ+ Equality Panel is one of seven panels established by GMCA to address inequality throughout Greater Manchester. You can find more information about the Equality Panels here

The LGBTQ+ Equality Panel is facilitated by LGBT Foundation, and brings together LGBTQ+ volunteers from across Greater Manchester, to speak to their lived experience and contribute diverse perspectives to GMCA’s work.

As a community-driven initiative, the LGBTQ+ Equality Panel centres the experiences of marginalised communities, including disabled LGBTQ+ people and Queer, Transgender and Intersex People of Colour (QTIPOC). 

Intersectional Approaches to Equality 

The LGBTQ+ Equality Panel recognises the importance of intersectionality and strives to address multiple forms of oppression experienced by LGBTQ+ people across the GM region.

With this community-driven approach, the Panel advocates for policies and practices that promote equality and inclusivity for all LGBTQ+ people.

The GM LGBTQ+ Equality Panel hosts regular recruitment open days, where you can learn more about the panel and it’s work, as well as how to become a member.
