Elevating and including the voices of LGBT people aged 50+ is imperative to facilitating the aims of the Pride in Ageing programme. For this reason, the advisory group has been in place since the launch of Pride in Ageing in June 2019.

The group consists of 18 LGBT community members from a wide range of backgrounds, sexual orientation, gender and ages. Their lived experiences and passion for improving inequalities faced LGBT people are at the heart of the project.

The advisory group meets regularly to:

  • Consult on local policies and how they can be adapted to better meet the needs of older LGBT people
  • Improve the delivery of social care and housing for LGBT people over 50 and increase satisfaction amongst users
  • Raise awareness of issues affecting LGBT people e.g. isolation, concerns around end of life care etc.
  • Offer recommendations to existing LGBT services on how to include and support people over 50

Advisory group members report an increase of confidence. satisfaction and feeling more informed since being involved with the project.

“This really feels like a place where you can come along and make a difference”
