Support for Trans Communities, Today and Every Day!

Published: 28 November 2017 Tags: #TDOR #Trans #GenderRecognitionAct By Admin Silverchip

This year, the government announced a reformation of the Gender Recognition Act and an intent to stamp out homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools through LGBT-inclusive sex education. Sports photographer Sophie Cook became the first trans person to work in the Premier League, and Lily Madigan has recently been elected as the first transgender Women's Officer for the Labour Party.

Sadly, these stories aside, Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) last week highlighted the extent of the violence and transphobia still inflicted upon trans communities, with trans women of colour being particularly at risk. In light of this, we'd like to share some of the supportive community groups available to trans people in Manchester:

They all meet at least once a month in the city centre, offering a safe space for trans* people and those questioning their gender to engage in discussion, access resources and make new friends.
