Pride in our Health

Published: 03 March 2017 Tags: pride in practice, greater manchester, healthcare By John Walding

Many of us put off those important health checks, but visiting the GP, the dentist, the pharmacy, or the optometrist is a crucial part of our healthcare.

Thanks to funding from NHS England and Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (the body overseeing devolution of the £6bn health and social care budget) Pride in Practice is now providing support across all primary care services, including dentists, pharmacies and optometrists as well as continuing to support GP Practices throughout Greater Manchester.

A key part of the Pride in Practice service are the views and experiences of LGBT people as these are central to how we develop our work to improve services in primary care across Greater Manchester.

By letting us know how your GP service is doing and what your experiences of dentists, pharmacies and opticians are like, we can help inform other primary care providers of what works and what doesn’t work when they are aiming to support their LGBT patients.

There are many ways you can get involved in the project and share your thoughts or ask your questions about how we can all help our primary care services be more aware of the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.

Come to our free event

On Saturday March 25th we are hosting a free interactive opportunity for LGBT people to get together and discuss the importance of primary care services across Greater Manchester, how these services currently meet LGBT patient’s needs and how we can help improve services for our communities. Among the issues we will be looking at are:

• How does your GP treat its LGBT patients?

• Why is it important that my dentist knows my sexual orientation/trans status?

• What can Optometrists tell us about our wider health?

• How can we get the most from our Pharmacy services?

Take the LGBT Patient Survey

This survey asks about your experiences of accessing healthcare services from your GP, dentist, pharmacy and optometrist. It aims to build a picture of current healthcare provision by Primary Care services for LGBT people. The findings of this research will be used to make sure that these services are better able to recognise and meet the needs of their LGBT patients. The survey should take around 20 minutes. To thank you for your time, you can enter into a prize draw to win £50 worth of shopping vouchers! You can click here to take the survey.
