What exactly is Section 28?

This year is an especially important year for LGBT+ History Month, as it has been 20 years since the abolishment of Section 28, which is the reason we celebrate LGBT+ history month in February here in the UK.

We want to mark this landmark LGBT+ History Month by looking at exactly what Section 28 was, the negative impact it had on the education system and LGBTQ+ people’s lives in the UK and the lessons we can learn for the future.


When did all this happen?

Thinking Section 28 was in the distant past? We think you'll be surprised to hear that in fact, this legislation was brought into effect in 1988 - the same year Adele was born!
