Bi Programme: LGBTQ+ Experiences of Cancer
30th June 2022, Online
Event Full Details:
Did you know that there’s a lack of robust data about cancer in the LGBTQI+ community? Do you feel that health research doesn’t represent your experiences? Are you interested in calling for more health research to involve LGBTQI+ people?
LGBT Foundation and Vocal (wearevocal.org) are coming together to host conversations about LGBTQ+ cancer health inequalities and the lack of robust data related to the community.
We’re looking for people who are over 25 and LGBTQI+:
• With and without lived experience of cancer
• Who care for or have cared for someone with cancer
• Who are happy to share their experiences, ideas and perspectives
What to expect:
We’re hosting creative workshops bringing community members and researchers together to have open discussions about cancer research.
You will:
- Have an opportunity to find out more about cancer research and health inequalities
- Be part of open conversations with researchers and other members of the community, where you can ask questions and share your perspectives on these topics
- Be involved in creative activities led by an experienced creative practitioner (no experience necessary)
As part of this, we want to create a zine and short videos to share the perspectives of LGBTQI+ people, call for more health research to involve the community and raise awareness of these issues in Greater Manchester and nationally. The zine and videos will be shared as part of a campaign taking place in September 2022.
Activities will be supported by local arts practitioner Ellie Page (www.elliepage.co.uk/) and videos will be collaboratively produced with Boca Films (www.bocafilms.co.uk).
This workshop is for anyone who identifies as bi, pan or polysexual or another term that describes an attraction to more than one gender. We ask that attendees read and agree to our Safer Spaces Policy before joining.
