Our guide to community organising

In 2020 LGBT Foundation began a pilot programme to support grassroots Community Organising. We have been exploring how we can support LGBTQ+ community members and allies to self-advocate and tackle issues they care about. As party of this work, we are excited to launch our "Introduction to Community Organising".

Activism and community organising can be a bit of a daunting concept. A lot of the time, we might picture huge crowds of people, shouting, waving placards, and demanding justice. Whilst that is one way of doing activism, it is not the only way.

Written with the invaluable knowledge and insight of LGBTQ+ community members and activists past and present. The resource does not cover everything, but hopes to start a conversation about how we can all make a difference to the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the UK.

Please Note: This resource was launched in December 2022. We would always recommend confirming most up to-date advice, especially around protest, from an additional organisation such as: Liberty or Green and Black Cross.

We are hosting a hybrid launch event for this resource on Sunday 11th December at our Community Hub in Manchester. This is open to LGBTQ+ people and allies. We would love to meet you there!
