Older Lesbian and Bi women community event

Why did we start the inclusion work?

Last year, we consulted with the community and learnt that, in the Women's Programme, the lesbian and bisexual women who were accessing our services were mainly white, cisgender and/or young(<50). Our job is to make sure our work is relevant and representative of all the lesbian and bisexual women in Greater Manchester. Your expertise can help us create the best possible safe and inclusive space for you and women like you.

The aim of the project is to help our communities around Greater Manchester have a voice in the LGBT community through :

- Intersectional Community Events dedicated to women who share multiple minority identities

- Awareness raising workshops for professionals and organisations who work with women with multiple minority identities.

To make sure we are going in the right direction we regularly ask you your opinion via survey.

You can access the most recent one here.

3:30-5:30: Xmas card-making workshop with Lauren Emily Star

I am a visual artist with 10 years experience working in mixed media, installation and print making. A lot of my work is about expressing my queer, mad and other identities. I have studio space with Pool Arts in Ardwick and am a member and trustee of Pool Arts charity. I run workshops in order to share my skills around creativity and exploring identity.

The workshop I am planning involves making cards using collage and possibly some mixed media if women want to experiment. I will bring materials to allow us to express queer and intersectional identities in our art making (or to make traditional cards if preferred!!).

I am a lesbian with other marginal identities. I am not an older woman (I am 38). However I hope to be in a few years and I am happy to discuss with and learn from workshop participants!

5:30-8pm: free Xmas party with Chrystine Moon!

Chrystine Moon – a queer, menopausal, feminist, revolutionary Singer-Songwriter, will bring you an entertaining set celebrating strong lesbians, rebellious bisexuals and powerful women and might even get a bit festive for the occasion! (show starts at 6pm)

Veggie/vegan buffet included
