SMS Pharmacy in Broughton has become the first pharmacy in Salford to be awarded Gold status by LGBT Foundation’s Pride in Practice quality assurance service.

The award is a charter mark for excellence in lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) healthcare. It recognises the changes that a primary care service has made to improve care for patients such as understanding the needs of the diverse community in the local area along with appropriate information and signposting.

Pride in Practice has been working with GP practices throughout Greater Manchester for the last five years and last year received funding from Greater Manchester Health & Social Care Partnership and NHS England to expand the project to ensure it is suitable for all Primary Care services, including GP Practices, Dental Practices, Pharmacies and Optical Practices throughout the region.

Dipesh M Raghwani, Managing Director of SMS Pharmacy comments: “We have a lot of LGBT customers in our local area and the Pride in Practice training and resources are helping us to support them even further. This award means a lot to us and is a testament to the team at SMS ensuring our service can be accessed by all without judgement at all times.”

Andrew Gilliver, Pride in Practice Co-ordinator adds: “It has been really great to see how Dipesh and his team have embraced Pride in Practice and how they provide such a personal service to their patients. The team are doing great work and this well-deserved award recognises that the pharmacy is committed to providing inclusive healthcare for everyone.”
