Rapid HIV tests at Body Positive North West
Publish Date: 09/06/2008
Using a rapid HIV test that takes just sixty seconds to produce a result, BPNW's clinical team of nurses and counsellors, half of them living with HIV themselves, offer information and support and can fast track anyone with a reactive result to a local HIV clinic.
BPNW has partnered with MASH (Manchester Action on Street Health) to launch a pilot HIV testing service at their premises in Chorlton. The nurse-led clinic will offer access to a rapid HIV antibody test (results in one minute), with trained counsellors providing a pre-test discussion (lasting 20-30 minutes), carry out the one minute test and then discuss the implications of the result with you.
Phil Greenham, BPNW'S Chief Executive said 'With almost half of gay men leaving a GUM clinic unaware of their HIV infection, it's important that HIV testing is offered in a wider range of settings that gay men find convenient and easy-to-use.
We hope BPNW's new clinic will relieve some of the pressure from local hospitals and increase the options for gay men in the north west wishing to take an HIV test.'
