Imaan, the largest support group for LGBT Muslims in Europe, held its tenth anniversary conference in London on the 17th to the 19th of October with guest speakers and delegates from more than 12 different countries around the world, as well as Islamic, Christian, Jewish, Sikh and secular backgrounds.
This year's conference was the largest yet and addressed issues of faith and sexuality, and homophobia and racism. It also investigated how best to engage the LGBT and Muslim communities, as well as wider society in a progressive alliance that promotes an agenda which is inclusive and supportive.
Delegates at the conference overwhelming concluded through discussions and workshops that the future of an inclusive and diverse society depended on the continuing strength and visibility of all LGBT people within their communities.
Delegates also highlighted the importance of building on opportunities to develop solidarity and support between faith-groups and statutory as well as voluntary sector LGBT partner organisations.
The event was a great validation of Imaan's journey over the last 10 years and provided the inspiration for the next decade, including the approval of a new constitution, officers and programme of work.
