UK’s first LGBT older person’s community planned for Man…

The ambition to create a community aimed at older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people has been announced today by Manchester City Council.

The project would be part of the city’s programme that provides high quality housing for older people, and is the first LGBT majority "Extra Care" scheme in the UK.

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Julie Barnes-Frank, who was the first recipient of the Alan Turing Memorial Award 2012 at the then Homo Heroes Awards. A police officer for over 30 years, she was one of the first openly-gay officers in Greater Manchester Police and in the country.

The Greater Manchester campaign, part of National HIV Testing Week, will target gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, and highlight the importance of regular testing, knowing your status and taking control.
