Scarlett's Roses: Interview
Publish Date: 02/07/2013
Scarlett’s Roses are building up a strong army of followers, referred to as their #PetalArmy, after performing for the first time at Manchester Pride last year.
“Pride is an event we feel really strongly about, I can honestly say that we would want to play Pride even if we were the biggest/most successfully band the world has seen”.
In fact, their most memorable moment as a band was Manchester Pride 2012; “It was our first big gig as a band, playing to thousands of people who hadn't heard our music before, and them loving it! What a feeling!”
This year, once again, they will be playing at Manchester Pride’s Big Weekend, on the main stage, as well as at Brighton Pride 3 – 8 August.
The band describe themselves in one word as ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, and speaking about their ‘sound’ Guitarist Daniel says;"Essentially we are a pop band, but we show elements of ska and hip-hop with a retro sound. We want to take people on a journey, so they feel they are the person in the song." Singer Ryan adds, “We’re telling stories that people can relate to, whilst making them dance and putting a smile on their face.”
Citing their inspiration, they say “With there being 7 of us in the band, we all have our own individual influences and idols from Jackie Wilson to Drake to James Dean with a little bit of Britney chucked in for good measure. But one person we can all agree on is Amy Winehouse, she changed the way we all looked at music and style”
Scarlett’s Roses are passionate about equality and when asked what one thingthey would change about the world said “Truly, as cliché as it may sound, it would be that people were more excepting of others, religions/ethnicities and LGB&T people.” Beforecheekily adding “Also that everyone in the world knew about Scarlett's Roses!”.
And their hopes for the future? “We absolutely love what we do so long may it continue.
We hope to get our music heard worldwide, a few albums, and to put a smile on someone's face. Let's get the world dancing and spread the love!”
