Say Enough is Enough! - to Russian Homophobia

Publish Date: 28/08/2013

Over recent months there has been a huge international outcry against Russia as President Vladimir Putin signed into law measures that stigmatise LGB&T people. The LGF has been in contact with our sister organization Coming Out St.Petersburg to stand with our Russian brothers and sisters against basic human rights being denied to LGBT people.

Very soon, world leaders including US President Obama will meet President Putin in St Petersburg, Russia. UK Prime Minister David Cameron, Brazil's President Rousseff, French President Hollande and many more will all be there for a global summit.

All Out are calling for people to take action on Tuesday 3 September to speak out against Russia’s anti-gay law and put pressure on world leaders.

Tens of thousands of people will join Global Speak Out events near them on Tuesday 3 September.

The LGF will be hosting an event at its Community Resource Centre, Number 5 Richmond Street, in Manchester on Tuesday 3rd September 6 – 8pm. People will have an opportunity to write on a luggage tag in a message of support for the LGB&T people of Russia, carrying on from the work of Manchester Pride last weekend.

Andrew Gilliver, Campaigns & Engagement Manager for The Lesbian & Gay Foundation comments “Our colleagues in St Petersburg want to keep the communication channels open, and it’s really important we continue to show our support for our Russian LGB&T brothers and sisters. We’re calling on all Enough is Enough! supporters to take action now and show their solidarity!”

Enough is Enough! campaign supporters will also be able to leave a short video message of solidarity. Those not able to attend the event can also email their messages and videos to; on facebook; or via Twitter @lgfoundation #Russia4Love.
