Safety first: Free soft drinks to curb drink driving this Xmas
Publish Date: 11/12/2014
To help curb drink driving, Via Manchester on Canal Street are offering designated drivers free soft drinks on nights out in the lead up to Christmas.
The Lesbian & Gay Foundation's (The LGF) Village Angels are out every weekend until the early hours and often deal with vulnerable people who have had a little too much to drink on nights out so an offer like this could help to make all the difference.
Jessica White, The LGF's Community Safety Co-ordinator, said: "Ensuring people get home safely is a vital part of community safety, and it is essential that revellers in the village know how they will get home after a night out. The Village Angels and I, are delighted to hear of this offer from Via and applaud their efforts towards reducing drink driving in Manchester over the festive period. Supporting designated drivers helps to reduce drink driving and makes the streets safer for everyone."
If you're driving everyone else home on a night out then it's a great opportunity to take advantage of this offer* and Via's motto this Christmas is 'If your doing the driving, make sure it’s soft.'
General Manager of Via and Polari Tony Cooper said: "When you're roped into driving everyone home after the Christmas party, I think the people you are driving should pay for your soft drinks, but lets be honest, they never do! So if you are in Via and are the designated driver, we will pay for your soft drinks, If we can prevent one person getting into their car after having a drink then this offer is worth every penny"
