Hate Crime Awareness Week 2015

Publish Date: 20/01/2015

As part of Manchester’s Hate Crime Awareness Week, 26th January to 1st February 2015, The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (The LGF) have a number of events and activities taking place across the whole week and culminating in our Sunday Service Drop-in on Sunday 1st February, 1-3pm.

The LGF is a hate crime reporting centre focusing on homophobic, biphobic & transphobic hate crimes. However, we can support you to report any other hate crime you have experienced.

Throughout the week, we will be running LGF Live Chat sessions where through our website you will be able to speak to someone from the comfort of your electronic device about hate crime. We will be able to help you report, get support, or just talk it through if you are not ready to report yet. To access our LGF Live Chat service, you will need to register for our website here and just follow the instructions! We have LGF Live Chat hate crime sessions running every day so check out our What’s On calendar for further details.

On Tuesday 27th January, we will be hosting our Legal Surgery, 6-8pm – there’s no appointment necessary, just drop in. You can come and talk to our surgery partners, O’Neill Patient Solicitors about hate crime and anything else you think they might be able to help you with. They will be able to advise you regarding any costs before you proceed.

On Thursday 29th January, we will be hosting our Police Surgery, 6-8pm – there’s no appointment necessary, just drop in. You can come in and talk to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and community support officers not just about hate crime, but about anything you think they can assist you with.

On Sunday 1st February, we will be having our Sunday Service Drop-in at 1-3pm. You can come along and find out what a hate crime is, how to report it, what support there is for victims of hate crime plus information from other organisations such as Victim Support, Crown prosecution Service and GMP. We will also have free goody bags for the first ten attendees and free refreshments! Just email Samantha at: Samantha.days@lgf.org.uk to book your place or call 0845 3 303030.

Every day you can drop-in and talk to us about hate crime or any other issue you may have - our Pop-in service is running this Monday – Sunday from 10am-8pm (last pop-in is 7pm) - just come to the Community Resource Centre, ask to speak to someone and we will do the rest! If you can’t pop into the centre then you can use our easy-access Hate Crime Reporting Web-app, which you can bookmark on your phone here: lgbt.foundation/report. It is very straightforward to use, just complete the form and we can call you back!

Throughout the week we will also be asking people who access the community resource centre what pledge they will make to end hate crime and we’ll be tweeting these out across the week with the hashtags: #letsendhatecrime and #HCAW2015. Keep up with the latest news by following @lgfoundation
