Groupwork at the LGF is Changing!
Publish Date: 18/07/2012
The Lesbian & Gay Foundation’s groupwork programme has been a long standing support service which has helped hundreds of bisexual, lesbian, gay and questioning people across the Northwest.
Although each group has different aims and purposes, they all provide a safe, supportive and non judgemental environment for people to meet, talk, listen, learn and explore. Support can be provided in a number of different ways, from structured discussions, informal chats, arts and crafts, watching documentaries and even playing board games and Wii!
However, due to lack of volunteers, some groups have experienced disturbance and some have even had to be cancelled, this is why, for the last few months, we have put all our efforts into recruiting and training a new team of volunteers, specifically for the groupwork programme.
With these volunteers comes new exciting changes for the programme, and we are pleased to announce that we are launching a new Older Mens group (start date to be confirmed), as well as welcoming the return of the ever popular and much loved Art Class on Monday September 10th!
We know that coming to a group can be a really scary experience, and just walking into a room full of strangers can be really intimidating. That’s why we are holding a groupwork recruitment night on Friday 28 September, 6-9pm.
You will get a chance to meet the volunteers and ask questions, as well as meet existing group members and chat to them about their experiences and why they attend the group. You can also experience taster sessions, and get more of an idea of what goes on. Plus, on top of that, there’s going to be food and an arts and crafts space to explore.
No need to book, but if you have any access or dietary requirements, or questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 0845 3 30 30 30.
