Exciting new changes for the LGF’s groupwork programme!

Publish Date: 26/03/2012

The groupwork programme at the LGF has a strong history, and encompasses two lesbian and bisexual womens groups, an older mens group, a married mens’ group, as well as an art class, a carers group and a group for people from black, minority and ethnic communities.

All groups are designed to provide a supportive and safe environment in which to explore issues and try new activities, as well as meet new friends and improve confidence, we really want to continue to do this and improve the service, which is why we are currently in the process of recruiting a skilled, experienced and creative team of volunteers!

Although the Art Class, Carers and the BME groups have been postponed for the time being (due to lack of volunteers), we are keen to start them up with a new energy towards the end of 2012, when we will have a team of experienced volunteers working with us to continue to support people from the LGB&T communities.

There are many advantages to becoming a groupwork volunteer, as well as full groupwork facilitation training and regular volunteer catch ups and other training opportunities, you get the chance to use your skills and creativity to provide a safe and supportive environment for service users.

Previous activities have included craft, creative writing, history talks, photography, confidence building and sexual health workshops from external professionals.  Working with a small team of volunteers, everyone will have the opportunity to support people to fulfil their potential, and have the personable skills to be able to make the group members work together and support each other too.

All groups will use the group room at  the LGF's Community Resource Centre, which is equipped with comfy sofas, an art display, a pull down screen for watching films, Hi Fi, Wii, craft materials and a newly installed PC!

If you are interested in volunteering for the group work programme or have any questions, please e mail: kate.hardy@lgf.org.ukor phone 0845 3 30 30 30.

If you currently attend the 40 Plus group or the Married Mens’ group, please see the groupwork page for details of the changes over the summer.
