Event: Peel Park Picnic
Publish Date: 15/04/2013
The Peel Park Pink Picnic is an annual community event that is organised by the LGBT community and is now in its third year. The event is free and open to all groups of people which allows’ the local community to gather in the center of Peel Park to enjoy a family-friendly event.
Last year the event attracted people from across the Greater Manchester area, proving to be more popular than previously thought. Many people entered into the spirit of the event by bringing their own picnic hampers, picnic blankets and even tables and chairs, with the winner of the best picnic layout winning a dinner for two at the Lowry Hotel.
A number of local support groups and organisations such as The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF) Salix Homes, Manchester Front Runners and many more were present at the event and showcased their services to the visitors.
The day was filled with enjoyment and laughter. The performances from the Gay Gordon’s and the Prairie Dogs went down a treat with people joining in with the dances.
The game of rounder’s was a hit with both the younger and older members of the community alike.
We were extremely pleased to welcome the support from the Ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Bernard Lea, as well as other local councilors from across Salford.
This year we already have some great performances lined up with acts from Father and Son (Semi finalist from Britain’s Got Talent) and Bears Aloud. Other entertainment on the Day includes a bouncy castle for the kids, both old and young, face painting and a bird of prey flying display.
Building on last year we have planned some great competitions and have some awesome prizes for people to win. Remember, you have to be in it to win it. So put the event in your diaries now…
