#Love_is The LGF at Manchester Pride 2014!

Publish Date: 07/07/2014

With the event only a few short weeks away, The LGF are announcing our exciting plans for Manchester Pride.

During the Big Weekend (22-25th August), The LGF will be opening the doors of our Community Resource Centre on Richmond Street to the thousands of people attending Manchester Pride and offer something that no other Pride event can - a space to refresh, recharge, and reconnect.

Here’s what you can expect:

ALL WEEKEND (Final times to be confirmed)

  • #Love_is AN OPEN DOOR (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon)

LGF staff and Village Angels will be on hand to welcome visitors to The LGF at our front door, with games, resources, and a chance to find out about LGF services and what we’re up to over the weekend.

  •  #Love_is A BUDDY AT PRIDE (Fri/Sat/Sun)

A service for those coming to Manchester Pride alone, or for those who want to make new friends. Join us for a chat and a cuppa, and make new connections in a quiet, friendly space.

  • #Love_is A COMMUNITY CAFÉ (Sat/Sun/Mon)

If it’s all getting a bit too much, this is an opportunity to sit down, put your feet up and enjoy a brew in safe, quiet, friendly surroundings.

  • #Love_is TELLING YOUR STORY (Sat/Sun/Mon)

With support from the BBC, why not come along to the LGF Diary Room and tell us what you think of the weekend? This special video booth is a chance to record your thoughts with your community.

  • #Love_is TRANS MAKE-UP & CHANGING STATION (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon)

Working in association with Transforum, we are offering the trans community a safe, non-judgemental space to prepare for their time within the Pride site. Two rooms will be available – one for make-up and one for changing.

  • #Love_is AN LGB-TEA DANCE (2pm-5pm)

Open to all, but especially to the older members of our community, this black tie tea-dance offers a fun, unique event of traditional dance and refreshments. Learn moves with Cadman School of Dance.

Worried you won’t have a good view of the Parade? Are the crowds a bit too much for you? Come and watch one of Manchester’s most vibrant parades LIVE on our big screen!

  • #Love_is GETTING ACTIVE (1pm)

Manchester Public Health Development Services will be offering information on a range of health and wellbeing services. Health checks are also available (blood pressure, cholesterol etc). There will also be a Cancer Marketplace in conjunction with Out With Prostate Cancer and The Christie – info and support will be available. There will also be support around smoking and alcohol, and complementary therapies.

  • #Love_is THE WORD! (4pm)

Join us in the Community Café as a selection of celebrity poets and actors read extracts from classic LGB&T literature. Line up TBC.

  • #Love_is DOCTOR WHO LIVE! (Time TBC)

Join us for the debut of the new Doctor, as we broadcast the feature length first episode of Peter Capaldi’s ‘Doctor Who’ on our big screen!

  • #Love_is RECHARGING! (12noon)

An afternoon of complementary and alternative therapies. Massage, reiki, foot massage, and other activities. Recharge your batteries and pick up a free Recharge Pack.

  • #Love_is FAMILY (12noon)

On the last day of The Big Weekend, we’re inviting families to join us in a range of fun activities including balloon modeling, and face painting. Find out what services are on offer for families. Find out about adoption and how you can start your own family. Or why not just bring your parents to Pride?

  • #Love_is A TIME TO REFLECT (8pm)

Alongside the emotional HIV Candlelight Vigil, we invite you to come and sign the Community Book Of Rememberance, and sit in quiet reflection. Refreshments and a friendly ear available.

In the run up to Manchester Pride, and tying in with the Pride theme of ‘love’, we’d love to know what love is for you. Follow us on Twitter - @lgfoundation – and use the hashtag #Love_is
